iPad: time management well in hand.

iPad Pre-orders Live Now at Apple Store

Friday, March 12th, 2010

iPadPreOrder

Fair as expected, iPad pre-ordering has gone live this morning at Apple’s online store.

You can now go to store.apple.com (in the US) and …

– Pre-order any of the WiFi models for delivery April 3rd (or April 5th whether your area does not have Saturday delivery available)

– Pre-order any of the WiFi + 3G models for delivery in late April

– Pre-order maximum of the Apple iPad accessories (with varying delivery dates)

I’ve opted to skip pre-ordering for now, as I still don’t feel excellent approximately the Saturday delivery piece of it.  Hoping to find out what’s possible with reserving at a local Apple store later this morning.

My New iPad – Reserved at My Local Apple Store

Friday, March 12th, 2010

ReserveConfirmEmail

I’ve got my iPad reserved, to pickup at my closest Apple store (approximately 5 miles absent) on the April 3rd launch day.  I’ve been told by an Apple phone sales rep that this can only be done online, not in the physical stores themselves – and that’s how I got it done this morning, via the link mentioned in my earlier post.

There’s a lot of confusion this morning approximately whether reserving an iPad at a local store this way means you are * guaranteed * to get one on April 3rd or not.  I’ve seen people on Twitter and forums saying they’ve been told it is not guaranteed.

To my intellect, the wording of the reservation form, and of the emailed confirmation I received, clearly say this is a certain, not a possibly.  The only qualifier I see to that is that you must exhibit up at your chosen store by 3 p.m. on April 3rd.  So whether your local store is going to be crazy on the day, some camping out / lining up may be required.  I can live with that. iPad – come to papa. :)

You Can Reserve an iPad to Pickup at Local Apple Store – Here’s Where To Go

Friday, March 12th, 2010

PickupatStore

Aha.  This is what I am wanting to do – reserve and pickup an iPad at my local Apple store.  I’m not even certain how / why I stumbled across this, but here is where you go to get to it:

http://www.apple.com/retail/reserve/?aid=AIC-WWW-NAUS-K2-RETAIL-IPAD-INFORM%20ME&cp=RETAIL-IPAD-INFORM%20ME

It’s a link off the Inform Me page for the iPad.

Right now, unfortunately, it is not fully working – at minimum for Texas.  It lets me choose the state of Texas, but then will not fill in anything in the drop-down where you should be able to choose your desired store location.  Whether I click the link to go to the store locator page, that works fine and shows me my nearest local store, but will not let me do anything / proceed with it.

I’ve reported this to Apple via their sales line, but so distant they are fair advising that their servers are slammed and to attempt again in a couple hours.  I too questioned whether you can do this reserving in the physical store nearest you and was told no you cannot, this can be done online only.

Let us know in the comments whether you get different results.

UPDATE: This is working fine, fair not in my Chrome browser.  I switched over to Safari and got my reservation done.
